Oskar’s

Oskar’s

Oskar’s, published by Gruner + Jahr, a German-American student exchange magazine distributed to schools in the USA and Germany, was an entertaining journal targeting adolescents, aged 14-19, as well as English teachers in Germany and German teachers in the United States.

For six months (1991/1992) I was Oskar’s English-language contributing editor. I sorted through ideas and subjects for stories and commissioned journalists to write them. I was responsible for overseeing the projects, writing captions, working with the layouters and illustrators, proofreading texts and contributing copy in English on German topics. One of my own stories was about the German phenomenon Imbißbude, aka snack bar.
